Ormond “Orm” Manhard, 92, died Jan. 27, 2012 at the home of his daughter Adrienne and son-in-law Jack McGrath in Duxbury. He was born May 16, 1919 in St. Louis, Mo. where he graduated from the John Burroughs School and went on to earn a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. After serving in the army during World War II, he moved to the Boston area, settled in Natick, and worked in marketing and advertising for over 40 years. He was the husband of the late Heloise (Casey) Manhard. Mr. Manhard spent his last decade living at The Village at Duxbury. During that time, he served on their Board of Directors and wrote the “Senior Scene” column for the Duxbury Clipper. “Voices from the Village,” a collection of his profiles of fellow residents at The Village at Duxbury, was published in 2009. Family and friends knew him as a gentleman and a scholar who discussed politics, followed the Red Sox and Patriots, and never left a dinner table without telling a good joke. Mr. Manhard leaves his son Bart and his wife Jeanne Manhard of Derry, N.H.; his daughters, Celia Jeffries, currently serving in the Peace Corps in Botswana, Africa, and Adrienne and her husband Jack McGrath of Duxbury; six grandchildren, Christopher and Brian Manhard, Jason Jeffries, Kaitlyn Nichols, and Conor and Peter McGrath; and four great granddaughters. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 at The Village at Duxbury, 290 Kings Town Way (Rte. 53), Duxbury, at 1 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 365 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360. |
