Frederick Winslow Stetson, Jr. died Sept. 14 in Warrenton, Va. He was 101. Mr. Stetson was born in Boston on July 4, 1910 to the late Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Winslow Stetson. His father, Harvard Class of 1894, was a well-known Boston physician and professor of medicine. Known to his friends as “Win,” Mr. Stetson grew up in Boston and Duxbury. He was a graduate of Roxbury Latin School, attended Harvard (Class of ‘31) and received degrees from Columbia University and Harvard Business School (Class of ‘34). During WWll he was an officer in the Coast Guard and stationed in Greenland. He was an advertising executive with agencies in New York and Chicago and retired as a vice-president and account supervisor for Needham, Harper and Steers. Mr. Stetson lived for many years in Barrington, Ill. where he was an election poll worker and library volunteer. He spent his final years at the Village of Duxbury where he enjoyed going on group trips to Bermuda and attending concerts and then at Oak Springs Nursing Home in Warrenton where he celebrated both his 100th and 101st birthdays with family and friends. Mr. Stetson was preceded in death by his wife, Currie. He leaves his children, Winslow “Rick” Stetson of Duxbury, Helen “Dede” Mavrogordato of Bluffton, S.C., Peter Folger Stetson of Jeffersonton, Va. and Deborah Stetson of Putney, Vt.; and five grandsons. Burial will be at the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury with a family ceremony. Contributions in his name may be made to the Stetson Kindred Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 31, Norwell, MA 02061. |
