Irving B. Pierce Jr. of Duxbury died May 8, 2011.  He was born in Boston, June 22, 1920 and raised in Lexington.  Immediately upon graduation from the Virginia Military Institute in 1942, he shipped overseas for three years with the Army Corps of Engineers as an officer supervising construction of hundreds of forward airfields in North Africa, Corsica, Sicily and Italy.  At war’s end, he married Ann Elizabeth Nelson of Lincoln.  For more than 60 years he was a practicing civil engineer, managing commercial construction projects all over the northeast, including Boston, Chicago, Bermuda and New York.

Mr. Pierce leaves his wife Ann of 66 years; his sons John and Richard; two grand daughters and two great-grand daughters.  A private service is planned for later in the spring at the family gravesite, Woodland Cemetery in Everett.
