Elizabeth Hilbert Forster (née Day) of Haverford, Penn., died at home on Dec. 15, 2009. Mrs. Forster was born on April 19, 1926 in Cambridge. Her parents were Dr. Hilbert Francis Day and Elizabeth Vernor Henry Richards, a Boston social worker. She was a direct descendant of General John Lamb, who was commandant of West Point and Collector of the Port of New York. She attended The Shady Hill School in Cambridge, and graduated from The Winsor School in Boston. After graduating from Bryn Mawr College in 1947, she furthered her studies at Simmons College and graduated with an MSW degree from its School of Social Work. From the time Mrs. Forster was three months old, she began spending her summers in Duxbury at the family homestead on Cove Street. She and her husband, Robert Forster, enjoyed sailing Duxbury Bay with her brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Kathy Day. She was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, Haverford, Penn., the Duxbury Yacht Club, the Philadelphia Skating Club & Humane Society and The Athenaeum of Philadelphia. Mrs. Forster leaves her children, Julia Bacon Forster, Dr. Jameson Forster, John Montgomery Forster and Elizabeth (Babs) Forster Camerota, nine-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was the wife of Dr. Robert E. Forster. A celebration of her life was held on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at The Church of The Redeemer in Bryn Mawr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Youth Service, Inc., 410 N. 34th St, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Burial will be held at Mayflower Cemetery this summer. |
