Lieutenant Colonel James J. Annicelli, 88, died Nov. 29 in Falmouth. Born and raised in Newton, he joined C Company, 101st Infantry National Guard in 1939. The unit was activated in December, 1940. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force in 1943, he served in both European and Pacific theatres of operations. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 and flew 56 missions in Korea. Attending night classes during his active duty career, he became a Professional Registered Engineer. Col. Annicelli and family enjoyed numerous assignments in the continental United States, the Far East, and Europe. He retired from the Air Force after 29 years of service in 1968. For the past forty years, Col. Annicelli lived in Saconesset Hills, West Falmouth and was an active member of the community on the Cape. He leaves his wife of over 65 years, Barbara T. (Keller) Annicelli; his children, Mark K. Annicelli of Key West, Fla., Colonel Susan Annicelli on active duty in the U.S. Army, James J. Annicelli Jr. of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Peter M. Annicelli of Duxbury; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and his dog, Pugsy. A burial service will be held Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001 as a living tribute to his wife Barbara.
