Doris Jeanette Fralic Handy died Nov. 12 at her home in Duxbury at the age of 94. She was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Walter and Mildred Fralic. Mrs. Handy graduated from Boston University. She was a teacher throughout her life, beginning in Harvard, Mass. and then in Falmouth, where she was hired by Dr. Handy. She taught Latin and French in the Marshfield school system until her retirement. In addition, she was an honored member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married the late Dr. Everett L. Handy, on Jan. 1, 1940. Mrs. Handy moved to Duxbury with her family in 1950 when Dr. Handy became Superintendent of Schools. Her personal investment in the Duxbury community has included charitable activities, serving as a docent at the King Caesar House, and, most recently, involvement in the Duxbury Senior Center. She was active in book clubs, bowling groups, caning and basket weaving classes. As a long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Duxbury, Mrs. Handy was active in every facet of church activity from St. John’s Guild to selection committees to the choir. Mrs. Handy leaves her sons, George and his wife Marilyn of Alexandria, Va., and Richard and his wife Judith (Hampton) of Suffolk, Va.; her daughter Judith and her husband Roy Catignani of West Barnstable; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Church on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dr. Everett L. Handy Scholarship Fund, c/o Partridge Fund, P.O.
