Francis C. Rogerson, Jr. died Nov. 7 after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1929 in Brookline and grew up summering in Duxbury. Mr. Rogerson served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a radio operator. He then attained the highest level of amateur ham radio license. After the war, he entered MIT, where he graduated with a Masters degree in civil engineering. He was a registered professional engineer and worked on many projects throughout New England. Mr. Rogerson and his first wife, Maria (Mujica) Rogerson, raised their children in Duxbury. He served on the Duxbury Conservation Commission (six years as chairman), on various town building and study committees from 1955 to 1989, and was a volunteer member of the Duxbury Fire Department, Engine Co. No 1. In the 1970’s and 80’s he served as a Director of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, the Plymouth Development and Industrial Commission, and as treasurer of the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra. In the early 1970’s Mr. Rogerson and two partners purchased the former Cordage Works from the Columbian Rope Company and developed the property into a complex of retail, industrial and business offices, renaming it Cordage Park. In 1990, the complex was sold and he retired. Mr. Rogerson was a member of both the Duxbury Yacht Club and the Plymouth Yacht Club and later was a member of the Halifax Yacht Club in Florida. Mr. Rogerson met Janet Singhal at the Plymouth Airport, where they were both pilots enjoyed flying single engine land and sea aircraft. They married in 1988 and moved to Ponce Inlet, Fla. in 1992. Mr. Rogerson joined the Ponce Inlet Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and served as secretary until elected to the Ponce Inlet Town Council in 1998. He served as a councilman and as the vice mayor. He was also on the Town Code Enforcement board and the planning commission. Mr. Rogerson was an active member of the Masons in both Massachusetts and Florida, achieving the rank of Grand Master, the highest in Mass. Mr. Rogerson leaves his wife Janet; his children, Robert Rogerson and his wife Christine, Thomas Rogerson and his wife Cathy, Terry Spoor and her husband Mike of Duxbury; his stepchildren, Ranjeet and Beena Singhal; and nine grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. in the Mayflower Cemetery, 774 Tremont St. followed by a reception for family and friends at the home of Tom and Cathy Rogerson, 90 Marshall St. from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Florida Hospital Hospice Care, 770 W.
