Louis ìSweetserî P. Bonzagni of Plymouth, died June 15 at his home. He was 84.
Louis ìSweetserî P. Bonzagni of Plymouth, died June 15 at his home. He was 84. Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Armando Bonzagni and the late Elvira (Soffriti) Bonzagni. Better known to his Duxbury friends as ìLouie Sweetserî Louis was part owner of Sweetser’s General Store along with the late Albert Albertini and the late O. Arrigo Guidoboni in 1951. He retired from Sweetser’s General Store in 1972. He was also the owner of ìThe Plymouth Belleî a fishing dragger, which he sold in 1963. Mr. Bonzagni attended Plymouth High School and enjoyed attending reunions with the class of 1940. He was an accomplished accordion player, taking lessons with Frank Gaviani of Boston starting at the age of 11. He played is first solo at the Frank Gaviani Accordion Concert in 1935. At the age of 15, he was a certified accordion teacher and played in a group with Eddie Brenner on guitar and Albert Reggiani on base. At age 18, he played at the Sagamore Inn with Herbie McBride and Charlie Clark. Mr. Bonzagni’s interests included playing the accordion, fishing, bird feeding, gardening, and caring for his three adopted cats and dog. He leaves is wife, Yvonne (Rezendes) Bonzagni of Plymouth; a nephew, John Bonzagni of N.C., a niece Nancy Lands of Texas; four step-daughters, Maureen Floros and husband Andreas, and Michelle Rezendes both of Calif., Doreen Gravelle and husband Arthur of New Bedford, and Maria Kilduff and husband Sean of Kingston. He also leaves 12 step-grandchildren, three great nephews, one great niece, one great-great nephew and two great-great nieces. He was the husband of the late Iride (Albertini) and Barbara (Seymour) and brother of the late Arthur Bonzagni. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 22 at St. Mary’s Church in Plymouth at 10 a.m., leaving from the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Rt. 3A, North Plymouth at 9 a.m. Burial in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 21 at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
