Charles Hird, a longtime resident of Duxbury died on Tues., Jan. 15. He was 89 years old. Mr. Hird was the son of the late Frederick and Helen Hird. He was born in Rockport, and raised and educated in Kingston.

He is a graduate of Kingston High School’s class of 1936. Following his graduation from high school Mr. Hird served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a pattern maker at the Charlestown Shipyard. He retired from the Navy in 1975. Mr. Hird and his wife Audrey have lived in Duxbury for the past 56 years.

Mr. Hird leaves his wife Audrey Fagen Hird and two daughters; Linda and her husband Dennis Volpe of Brockton, and Lori and her husband Peter Kim of Worcester. He also leaves his grandchildren Beth Volpe of New Mexico, Daniel Volpe of Brockton, and Kevin Volpe of Brockton. He was the brother of the late Frederick A. Hird.
