Funeral services were held Monday at the First Parish Church in Duxbury for James Michael Mulhern of Kingston who died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest May 10. He was 45.

His sister, the Rev. Catherine Cullen of Duxbury, pastor of First Parish Church, performed the services. His brother, Warren F. Mulhern, of Boston, delivered the eulogy.

Born in Medford and raised in West Roxbury, Mr. Mulhern attended Boston Latin High School and studied engineering at Northeastern University. He had worked as a software engineer for many years and more recently was the part owner of a computer service company, ABT Network Solutions of Kingston. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves and was awarded the army’s Achievement Medal for exceptional service.

A warm and generous person, Mr. Mulhern was well known for the many acts of kindness he extended to his family, his friends and, in many cases, to strangers as well. He had a curious mind, was well read and was skilled in the art of conversation. He loved the outdoors, be it on the water, camping in the woods or from atop a mountain.

In addition to his sister Catherine and brother Warren, he leaves his wife, Barbara S. Caparell, a well-known attorney in Plymouth County; two young daughters, Arian JiLan Mulhern and Alena YiXiang Mulhern; his mother, Patricia Ann (Prendergast) Mulhern of Scituate; three other sisters, Melinda Mulhern of Weymouth, Andrea Mattson of Vermont and Patricia Holmes of Marshfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private.
