Gertrude (McNally) Rooney of Duxbury, formerly of Winchester, died June 20, at the age of 89. Mrs. Rooney’s entire life was dedicated to her family, church and helping others. Her volunteering began during World War II as a nurse assistant and an air raid warden in Winchester. She was a founder of the Massachusetts Medical Society/Alliance and the Middlesex East District Alliance and was an active member for over 60 years. She worked at St. Mary’s Parish (Winchester) and was instrumental in keeping the parish school open. She was a member of Marshfield Country Club, Green Harbor Yacht Club, Holy Family Church (Duxbury), Our Lady of the Assumption Church (Green Harbor) and St Mary’s Church (Winchester). She and her husband were avid supporters of Boston College football and hockey. Mrs. Rooney was the wife of the late Dr. Charles E. Rooney. She leaves seven daughters; Joan Shea and her husband Harry of Duxbury and Marshfield, Martha Rooney of Bridgewater, Marilyn Soboski of Carver (formerly Winchester), Patricia Simons and her husband Jeff of Duxbury, Eileen Kimmett and her husband Robert of Winchester, Mary Regina Cleary of Winchester and the late Janet Rooney; twelve grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St (Rte 139) Marshfield, June 24 at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
