Robert W. Holmes of Andover, formerly of Duxbury, died Dec. 25, 2008 at Academy Manor in Andover. He was born in Manomet the son of Ralph B. and Clara C. Holmes. He graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1931, and also graduated Northeastern University with an engineering degree. Mr. Holmes was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Smith Corona. He had also served as assistant Corporate Controller at Raytheon Corporation and as a controller with Olin Matheson, Winchester Arms Division. Mr. Holmes published many articles in several leading business and financial journals and lectured extensively on business matters. He had a long service on the Board of Directors of the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. He also served on several committees of the town of Duxbury. Mr Holmes was an avid clam digger. He was married to the late Vera (Wuchter) Holmes of Fall River. He leaves a daughter Christine Leland of Martinsville, Ind. and a son Robert W. Holmes Jr. of North Andover as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Holmes at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St. North Andover. |
