Miss Agnes E. Nawazelski, 100, of Hanover, the daughter of the late
Joseph and Augenia (Waitkunas) Nawazelski, a retired teacher, died
Wednesday, September 17, at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton.
Miss Agnes E. Nawazelski, 100, of Hanover, the daughter of the late Joseph and Augenia (Waitkunas) Nawazelski, a retired teacher, died Wednesday, September 17, at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton. Miss Nawazelski was born in Hanover and attended the Hanover schools and was a graduate of the Bridgewater Normal School. She taught in the Hanover elementary schools for 40 years, retiring in 1969. A communicant of St Mary’s Church, she taught CCD classes there for many years, had been a member of the choir, the Alter Society, and the church Prayer Group. She was also a charter member of St Colletta’s Guild. She had been a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Hanover Teachers Association, the Hanover PTA, and for several years was on the Hanover Scholarship Committee. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society of key women teachers. As a member of the Hanover Historical Society, she had served as its secretary, vice-president, and on the Board of Directors. She helped update and contributed two articles for the “History of the Town of Hanover” (1910-1977). She also wrote her own family history and memoirs. She was a charter member of the “Friends of Stetson House, a member of the “Village” singers group, and a member of the Hanover Grange. During World War II she served as a “warden”. After the war she sponsored a displaced Lithuanian family. She enjoyed traveling and visited many different countries in Europe, South America and Canada. She also toured the United States. More recently she was a member of the Massachusetts and Plymouth County Retired Teachers Association. She also volunteered for Taping for the Blind for TIC radio. She attended programs such as Book Club and Painting class sponsored by the Hanover Council on Aging. Miss Nawazelski leaves a sister in law, Eleanor Nawazelski of Hanover, nieces, Joan Paquette of Duxbury, Diane Dickson of Dover, N.H., Nancy McIver of Hanover, nephews, Joseph Nawazelski of North Adams, Richard C. Nawazelski and Paul J. Nawazelski, both of Hanson. She also leaves many grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Julius, Peter and Amelia G. Nawazelski. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, September 19 in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church in Hanover. Burial took place in Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland. |
