Edward Lawson Abbott, 88, of Duxbury, formerly of Wellesley and Sherborn, died on July 2.
Edward Lawson Abbott, 88, of Duxbury, formerly of Wellesley and Sherborn, died on July 2.
Mr. Abbott was born on December 20, 1919 in Weston the son of the late Edward Lawson Abbott and Isabel (Ellsworth) Sherburne. He grew up in Weston before enlisting in the United States Army. During World War II, he served in England in the same unit as his two brothers, David and Gordon. In 1943, he married Harriette Anne Riley of Weston. After the war, he ran a Gulf station in Wellesley, before purchasing his own station in Weston. He owned Ed Abbott’s Gulf Service until his retirement. Mr. Abbott enjoyed taking road trips with his wife, working in his yard in Sherborn, his 1957 Corvette, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very grateful for all the blessings in his life. Along with his wife of sixty-five years, Mr. Abbott leaves a daughter, Betsy MacKenzie of Wethersfield, CT; a daughter, Amy McWilliams, and her husband, Mike of Duxbury; and a son, Edward Abbott, and his wife, Penny of Burbank, CA; seven grandchildren, Kate, Karen, B.J., Sara, Jeff, Kristy and Riley; seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew, Beau, Abby, Brady, Christopher and Gabe; and his brother David of Dunnellon, Florida. He was also the brother of the late Gordon and Sherburne Abbott. Mr. Abbott’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 657 Boston Post Rd, Weston, followed by his Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Abbott family lot in Linwood Cemetery in Weston. |
