Joseph P. Gaughan, 66, formerly of Duxbury, died June 10. Born on
September 11, 1941 in Boston, Joe graduated from Boston Latin School,
Northeastern University, and Suffolk University Law School
Joseph P. Gaughan, 66, formerly of Duxbury, died June 10. Born on September 11, 1941 in Boston, Joe graduated from Boston Latin School, Northeastern University, and Suffolk University Law School. He was an electrical engineer at Raytheon before starting his career as an attorney, and retired after 28 years with the Plymouth County District Attorneys Office, 24 years as the First Assistant. Joe prosecuted a number of high-profile cases, including the first murder case in Massachusetts in which DNA evidence was admitted. He also worked as a Professor of Criminology and Sociology at Stonehill College, was a Professor of Law at Concord Law School, and an Associate at the Law Firm of J. Christopher Amrhein of Hingham. He served on the Executive Committee, the Emerging Technology and DNA advisory committees of the National District Attorneys Association. He was an avid runner, having run over 50 marathons both in the US and internationally. In addition, he was an active member of the Marshfield Road Runners Club.{sidebar id=4} He was the husband of Maureen A. (ONeil) Gaughan and the father of Dana M. Perry of Maynard, Matthew J. Gaughan of Boston and Patrick J. Gaughan of New York, N.Y.; the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Naughton) Gaughan; and brother of the late Edward Gaughan, the late Nancy Gaughan, Thomas Gaughan II of Walpole, John Gaughan of Bonita Springs, Fla., James Gaughan of Excelsior, Mn., Francis Gaughan of Quincy, Margaret Doyle of West Roxbury and William Gaughan of Naples, Fla. He was the grandfather of Carina Perry. A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Church on June 13. Contributions in Josephs memory may be made to: Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Drive, P.O.
