Barbara Mary Walsh Gibbings, 71, of Fayetteville, N.C. and formerly of
Southscape in Duxbury died on Mon., Feb. 18 in Fayetteville, N.C. after
a courageous battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Barbara Mary Walsh Gibbings, 71, of Fayetteville, N.C. and formerly of Southscape in Duxbury died on Mon., Feb. 18 in Fayetteville, N.C. after a courageous battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mrs. Gibbings was born in Springfield, the daughter of the late Maurice and Florence McCormick Walsh. She was raised in Springfield. Mrs. Gibbings became the bride of the late Leslie Gibbings and traveled the world while he served in the United States Army. They were married for 36 years. She called Duxbury, Germany, Panama, Burke, Virginia, and Fayetteville her home.{sidebar id=1} In 2005 she moved to Fayetteville, NC to be near her son Tom and his family, and shared three wonderful years of their lives together. She will be cherished for those many evenings sitting with her parents and siblings at the kitchen table laughing. Mrs. Gibbings leaves her son, LTC Thomas Gibbings, assigned to XVIII Airborne Corps in Iraq and his wife Julie of Fayetteville, N.C., a grandson, John, and granddaughters, Ashley and Emily Gibbings, a brother, Thomas Walsh and his wife Mary of Duxbury, and a sister Patricia Ollari and her husband James of Agawam. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maureen Sullivan. Funeral services took place on Feb. 23.
