Drusilla “Dru” Greenwood Withington, 80, of Plymouth died on Sunday, Feb. 24 surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in Boston on April 6, 1927, daughter of the late Richard N. and Bessie (Simms) Greenwood.  She was a graduate of Concord Academy and trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, specializing in teaching children with dyslexia.  She taught in the Plymouth and Hanover public school systems, as well as The Rivers School and Milton Academy.{sidebar id=1}

Dru was a member of The Plymouth Garden Club, Black and White Art Club, Antiquarian Society, Eel River Beach Club, Plymouth Yacht Club and served on the Board of Directors at Berrybrook School in Duxbury.  She volunteered for many years with Friends of Cranberry Hospice.

A native of Gardner, Dru spent summers in Plymouth, where, at age two she met her future husband Paul in the sandbox at the Eel River Beach Club.  When they were 14-years-old, Paul asked Dru the all-important question, “When we grow up, do you want to get married?” And her reply was “OK.” They were married six years later.

Her life passions included her grandchildren, swans, gardening, teaching, traveling with Pandy and Ben, bird watching, hiking, and skiing. Dru leaves her husband of 60 years, Paul Withington, her children Tucker and Neil Withington of Plymouth, David and Tami Withington of Duxbury and Mark and Sue Withington of Plymouth, her grandchildren, Lia, Whitney, Spencer, Hadley, Brooke and Paige Withington.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dru’s memory may be made to The Jordan Family Fund, c/o Jordan Hospital, Philanthropy office, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at noon at the Chiltonville Congregational Church, River Street in Plymouth.{sidebar id=6}
