Allyn Burrows MD, a longtime resident of Brookline and Duxbury, died at
his childhood home in Groton, Conn. on Nov. 18. He was age 89.

Allyn Burrows MD, a longtime resident of Brookline and Duxbury, died at
his childhood home in Groton, Conn. on Nov. 18. He was age 89. Belton Burrows was the son of Judge Warren B. Burrows and Emily Avery Copp of Groton, Conn. He received his B.A. degree from Yale University in 1939 and his M.D. degree from Columbia P&S in 1943. He served in the European Theatre during WWII as medical officer, captain, 1173rd Engineering Combat Group. Dr. Burrows was a research professor of medicine and on the admissions committee at Boston University School of Medicine from 1965-1994. From 1953-1978 he was chief of radioisotope services and nuclear medicine at Boston University Medical Center and at the Boston VA from 1953-1990. He was editor of the "Journal of Nuclear Medicine" from 1970-1975 and was acting director of nuclear medicine services at the Veterans Administration Central Office, Washington, DC, from 1967-1973. He was a consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 1977-1984. Dr. Burrows was an active member of the Duxbury Yacht Club and enjoyed racing Ducks, Pioneers and Flying Scots. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Dorinda McKenzie (Bell), and his six children, Calvin B. Burrows, Warren B. Burrows MD, Ellen Burrows, Emily A. Burrows, Sarah M. Burrows and B. Allyn Burrows, Jr. and 12 grandchildren. Burial service was a private family service. Byles-MacDougall of New London, Conn. made funeral arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to the Boston University Medical School Scholarship Fund or to Church of Our Savior of Brookline. A memorial service with friends and associates will be held at 4 p.m. at the Church of Our Savior, Brookline, Jan. 12. |
