Duxbury residents will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to cast their ballots. Town Clerk Nancy Oates expects a large turnout due to local races.
Six local candidates will square off for three positions. The Senator in General Court race sees incumbent Robert L. Hedlund, Jr. (R-Weymouth) challenged by Genevieve S. Davis (D-Norwell). The Representative in General Court race sees Karen E. Barry, (R-Duxbury) challenge Joshua S. Cutler (D-Duxbury) in Precincts Two through Six. Precinct One race for Representative in General Court sees Incumbent Tom Calter (D-Kingston) challenged by Debra A. Betz, (R-Plymouth). For Register of Deeds, incumbent John R. Buckley, Jr., (D-Brockton) is challenged by Anthony Thomas O’Brien, Sr., (R-Pembroke). The County Commissioner’s race sees Greg Hanley (D-Pembroke), Daniel A. Pallotta (R-Hanover), and Maryanne Lewis (I-Scituate) competing for two seats. Locally, Robert S. Creedon, Jr. (D-Brockton), is running unopposed for the Clerk of Courts position and Christopher A. Iannella (D-Boston) is also unopposed for the position of Councilor of the Fourth District. In the state-wide race for Senator in Congress, incumbent Scott P. Brown, (R-Wrentham) is challenged by Elizabeth A. Warren, (D-Cambridge). The race for Representative in Congress sees incumbent William Richard Keating (D-Bourne) challenged by Christopher Sheldon, (R-Plymouth) and Daniel S. Botelho (I-Fall River). For the national race of President and Vice-president, Incumbents Obama and Biden (Democrats) are challenged by Romney and Ryan (Republicans), Johnson and Gray (Libertarians), and Stein and Honkala (Green-Rainbow). Ballot Question two asks voters to approve physician-assisted suicide. Ballot Question three asks voters to approve medical marijuana. Ballot Question four asks Duxbury voters to approve exempting the first $100,000 of assessment from the Community Preservation Act real property assessment as approved by town meeting beginning July 1, 2013. Ballot Question five asks Duxbury voters to reduce the CPA real property assessment from three percent to one percent as approved by town meeting beginning July 1, 2013. |
