With the beginning of construction on the new middle and high schools, the town has learned it needs an easement from the Wildlands Trust in order to access the construction site.
Selectmen voted unanimously Monday to execute a temporary easement with the Wildlands Trust. The easement will allow vehicles to pass over a small portion of the organization’s land at 0 Anchorage Lane, off of St. George Street. A small corner in the back of that property abuts that part of the school land near the current middle school football field. The easement will be approximately 15 feet at the widest point. To create the access, the town will cut some trees and re-grade the area. In return for the easement, the town will landscape the area. The easement will be temporary and will be revoked after it is no longer needed for construction. In other business, selectmen: • Signed the lease documents for Duxbury Beach for FY2013. The town leases the beach for $400,000 from the Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc. Town meeting voters approve the amount annually. • Learned that an Eagle Scout has expressed an interest in building a handicapped ramp on the bay side of the beach. This would be in addition to the handicapped ramp on the ocean side. • Accepted donations of materials and furnishings for the new crematory. Town Manager Richard MacDonald said that cemetery trustee Emmett Sheehan donated trees, granite steps and installed drainage at the site and that resident Wes Langeland donated epoxy flooring. An anonymous donor contributed furniture and furnishings for the facility. • Learned that MacDonald has signed a new natural gas contract that will save the town $50,000 per year. The two-year contract allows the town to pay sevem cents per therm of natural gas instead of eight and a half cents. MacDonald said the new contract will reduce the town’s rates by 17 percent. The new contract expires June 30, 2015. • Accepted the resignation of Norman Tucker from the Duxbury Historical Commission. MacDonald praised Tucker for his years of service. Tucker was also the historical commission’s representative to the Community Preservation Committee. |
