| Powder Point Bridge stars in movie |

(The crew of “The Way, Way Back” film shoot a scene on Powder Point Bridge.) One of the stars of the made in Massachusetts film, “The Way, Way Back” will be Duxbury’s own Powder Point Bridge. The crew of the movie was in town last week shooting a pivotal scene for the Steve Carell movie that uses the bridge as a scenic metaphor. “This town was exactly as it was written (in the screenplay),” said one of the movie’s producers, Tom Rice of Sycamore Pictures. “We saw the bridge and relocated a scene to take advantage of it. Everything up here is beautiful.” Under perfectly blue skies with rolling cumulous clouds, it was a surprisingly laid back day at Duxbury Beach with over 150 crew set up at the residents’ parking lot, and trucks, tents and cameras lining the bay side. Though it was warm, a variety of ice cream was plentiful for the cast and crew. No one complained to have to work on such a lush set. As the Academy Award winning screenwriters Jim Rash and Nat Faxon directed the camera for background shots and reviewed clips, Duxbury residents paid little attention to all the fuss in their backyard. One woman, who didn’t want to give her name, parked adjacent to the crew, unloaded her truck and hardly noticed the goings-on, saying, “I’m here for the beach.” Scott Levine, spokesman for the movie starring Marshfield resident Steve Carell, as well as Toni Collette, Maya Rudolph and AMC’s “The Killing’s” Liam James said the story is about a lonely teenaged boy who comes into his own when he meets the manager of a local water park. Colette plays the boy’s mother and Carell stars as the mother’s carousing boyfriend. Neither was expected to visit Duxbury, according to Levine, noting the shoot in town involved only James. “We shot a scene on the bridge with two boys riding the same bike,” said Levine. “Liam James plays the son, he’s the central character. He grabs a bike and discovers this world at the water park where he’s accepted and embraced.” Much of the movie will be filmed in Marshfield this week and the water park scenes were filmed on location at Water Wizz in Wareham. “The bridge is gorgeous,” said Levine. “It’s photogenic, it’s the perfect spot for these boys. Duxbury, too.” |
