By Elizabeth Lewis, Chair, School Building Committee The School Building Committee (SBC) announces two important upcoming events on Tuesday June 5. A Groundbreaking Ceremony for new Middle and High School will be held at 10 a.m. on the field behind the middle school, rain or shine. Later that evening, the SBC and Mount Vernon Group Architects will host the last design forum beginning at 7 p.m. in Alden Room 104. Final building and site plans will be presented and the Construction Manger, Dimeo Construction Corporation, will discuss the project schedule, traffic and phasing plans. The public is invited to attend both events. Over the past several months, the SBC and design team have been working diligently to complete the plans. We have met with the various school departments to confirm interior finishes and casework, including music, drama, art and athletics departments. We have held meetings with athletic user groups, the municipal and residential neighbors, and Duxbury’s Design Review Board, Planning Board and Highway Safety Committee. We have also filed Notice of Intents and obtained permits from the Duxbury Conservation Commission for the temporary and permanent construction. The project is advancing as planned with work scheduled to begin in late June. The first phase of the project will include installing temporary fencing around the work area and site erosion controls, construction of access roads and temporary parking, earthwork and installing site utilities. The SBC meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. in Room 106 of Duxbury High School. During the months of July and August, the meetings will be held in Alden Room 104. All meetings are posted at Town Hall, on the school Web site, and are open to the public. |
