The Duxbury Lions Club Food Pantry, “The Lions’ Share,” will be opening soon, and needs the help of everyone in our community to fill the shelves. The Duxbury rural carriers will be taking part in the annual National Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive on Saturday, May 12, and all of the food collected will be headed to the new food pantry If you can, please help our Duxbury neighbors in need by leaving one or more bags of food by your mailbox on Saturday, May 12. (Please mark it for the Letter Carrier’s Food Drive.) In case of inclement weather, it is suggested that you place your food bags in a large plastic bag. The food will be picked up as carriers go about their regular mail deliveries. All types of non-perishable food – from peanut butter and jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, coffee, fruit and vegetable juices, cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, to salad dressings, beef stew, chili, baked beans – are welcome. The only requirement is that all cans and boxes must be new and in good condition. Anything outdated or opened must be thrown away for health reasons. If you’d like to do even more to help, community volunteers will be needed to help with the sorting. Please email Mary Lou O’Connell at mlocon@comcast.net if you are able to lend a hand. |
