Patricia Coulsey of Duxbury has been named one of two 2012 South Shore Arthritis Walk Ambassadors, along with four year old Avery Bassett of Brockton.  Along with their family and friends, Avery and Pat will lead the Annual Arthritis Walk on May 6, 2012 at Stephen’s Field in Plymouth.  Both diagnosed with arthritis, Avery and Pat call on the South Shore community to join them in supporting the Arthritis Foundation in their efforts to prevent, control and cure the more than 100 different types of arthritis and related diseases.  Patricia has been a volunteer since childhood, recruited by her parents, working at home, at church and in the community. She has worked for fifty-five years with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a worldwide fraternal benevolent group, providing care, education, monetary support and even burial for those in need. The IOOF has been a major fundraiser and supplier of in kind services at Arthritis walks for many years. For the past twelve years, Pat has worked on and chaired food services for the Boston walk, Plymouth walk, and Fall River walk. The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs have entered a float in the Pasadena Rose Parade for the past sixty years and Pat has worked on the float nine years since 2000.  She is currently serving as the state president of the Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts. Author and Duxbury resident Barbara O’Connor was first runner-up in The Nene Honor Book Award for her book, “How to Steal a Dog.”  In a tie vote, the first of its kind for the Nene, two books placed first, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick and “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies. Hawaiian children in grades four through six choose their favorite novel from among those published in a given year. According to the Hawaii News Now, “a total of 6,519 students from 80 public libraries, private and public schools statewide voted.”
