The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society (DRHS) recently held its annual meeting during which several key volunteers were recognized with awards. Anne Williams was given the award for preservation. Williams worked long hours to ready the textiles collection for their move from the unheated space at the King Caesar House to their new, more environmentally stable quarters at the Nathaniel Winsor, Jr. House. Tony Kelso received the award for education. Kelso, Duxbury’s Town Historian, has been a major contributor to DRHS annual school programs for many, many years. Ashley Mohrman received the award for activities. In 2011, she was instrumental in organizing the new DRHS Wicked Wicket Croquet Tournament at the King Caesar House. She recruited a large event committee, promoted the event and was largely responsible for its success. The “Volunteer of the Year Award,” given for outstanding volunteer contribution in many areas, went to Diane Hoyt. Hoyt works with cataloging documents in the archives, gives tours of the King Caesar House, and works on the Historic Clothing committee, cataloging and helping with exhibits. She annually volunteers to help with the DRHS school programs, Christmas at the King Caesar House and has recently taken on a large part of the responsibility of maintaining the Lyddy Hale Herb Garden at the King Caesar House. |
