Shortly after 8 a.m., Duxbury police and fire personnel responded to the crash that snarled traffic both ways on the roadway.  According to police, 38-year-old Gayle DeCola was traveling south on Tremont Street with her two children when her 1997 Mercury Mountaineer crossed the centerline, striking a 2001 Ford Van and a Goodrich Lumber delivery truck.

According to Deputy Chief Wayne Sjostedt of the Duxbury Fire Department, the drivers of the truck and van were both unharmed.  The female child in Decola’s car did sustain a bloody nose from the accident and the male child indicated he was fine, said Sjostedt.

He added that one of the children in the car called their father, who picked up both children at the scene of the accident.

DeCola, said Sjostedt, was unconscious when emergency personnel arrived, but did regain consciousness after the call was made for the med-flight helicopter and complained of abdomen pain.

At 8:26 a.m., the helicopter landed at the central fire station’s landing zone and was on route to Mass General Hospital with DeCola 12 minutes later, said Sjostedt.

DeCola remained in critical condition for most of Friday and was upgraded to fair condition on Saturday.  Officials at Mass General would not detail the extent of DeCola’s injuries

Duxbury police say she will be cited for operating without a license, operating with a revoked registration, operating an uninsured vehicle and a lane violation.
