The single car accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when officials believe 35-year-old Robert Alconada of Weymouth was driving his 1997 Lexus ES300 at excessive speeds before losing control of the vehicle.

Sgt. Paul Letsche of the Massachusetts State Police said that Alconada along with his two passengers were not wearing seat belts and that all three were ejected from the vehicle.  One of the passengers, 33-year-old Christopher Ellis of Whitman, was pronounced dead at Jordan Hospital.

The other passenger, 25-year-old Timothy Hutchinson of Rockland was transported by helicopter to the Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.

Deputy Chief Wayne Sjostedt of the Duxbury Fire Department said his agency received a call to respond to the scene around 10:45 p.m. Thursday night.  On arrival, he said, paramedics assessed those involved in the accident and decided that the med-flight helicopter would be needed.

Sjostedt said that paramedics determined there were two “priority one” situations, which indicate serious or life threatening injuries. These designations were for Ellis and Hutchinson.

The med-flight helicopter landed on Route 3 to transport Hutchinson to Boston, while paramedics from Pembroke rushed Ellis to Jordan Hospital, said Sjostedt, where he later died.

Alconada, was given a “priority two” designation, indicating he was stable at the time but could worsen, and was transported by the Duxbury ambulance to South Shore Hospital.

Letsche said that Alconada will face charges at a later date in Plymouth District Court that include motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, operating under the influence of alcohol with serious injury, unlicensed operation of a vehicle and speeding.

Duxbury Police Department’s Lt. Chip Chubb said that his agency also responded to the crash site to assist state police in directing traffic and other duties.
