Rep. Tom Calter, a Democrat who represents precincts 1 and 6 in Duxbury, sent this statement after the conviction of former House Speaker Sal DiMasi:

“As you know, I was one of only seven Democrats who voted against the re-election of Speaker DiMasi in his last term. I believed then as I do now that government must be transparent and always serve the public good. The judicial system worked this week and the verdict sends a loud and clear message, not only to the former Speaker, but to all who serve the Commonwealth. This is a solemn responsibility that we are entrusted with by our fellow citizens, and we all must be held to, and hold ourselves to, the highest standards of ethics."
