Sen. Robert L. Hedlund has been re-elected to his position as Minority Whip in the Massachusetts State Senate. Sen. Hedlund recently began his ninth term as state senator for the Plymouth/Norfolk District and is the second-longest serving Republican currently in the Senate. His position as Minority Whip makes him the third ranking Republican in the Senate. Sen. Hedlund has also been reappointed to the joint committees on Transportation, Housing, Labor & Workforce Development, Public Health, Community Development & Small Business, and the Senate committees on Post Audit & Oversight and Global Warming and Climate Change. He is the ranking minority party on each of the committees and is the longest serving member of the Joint Committee on Transportation. By comparison, the average Senate majority party leader sits on two committees.  He has used his position on these committees to speak out against Big Dig and MBTA-related waste, to call for 40B reform, and to fight on behalf of small businesses against higher taxes and needless regulations. “I will continue to fight for a government that is more responsive to voters, that allows business to thrive and drive our local economy, and that spends our scarce tax dollars wisely,†Sen. Hedlund said. |
