A Chestnut Street publisher will be able to construct additional office space, but will not be allowed to use it to lodge employees, under a Board of Appeals decision voted last Thursday. The appeals board voted, 5-0, to grant a request by Kevin Griffin of Griffin Publishing Company to raze a two-car garage in the back of 21 Chestnut St., and to build a larger structure in its place that includes a two-car garage downstairs and office space upstairs.

A decorated pumpkin patch will be sprouting in the children’s department of the Duxbury Free Library. During the week of Oct. 9 - 13, children from kindergarten through grade six are invited to bring a decorated pumpkin to place on display.

Regardless of whether one favored building a new school, crematory, police station or addition to the fire station, one cannot but be grateful for the millions of dollars Duxbury’s AAA bond rating will save the town’s taxpayers in financing these projects. The recent bonds-signing is a good-news story, and an important one.

The town-wide curfew on outside activities due to the threat of mosquito-borne illnesses such as EEE is tightening as the days get shorter. The curfew had been set at 6:45 p.m. On Sunday, the curfew changed to 6:15 p.m.

On Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Duxbury Board of Health, Duxbury Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

For years, Wendy Ziemba of Weymouth enjoyed fishing off Powder Point Bridge with her brother Wayne. Aside from the stark beauty of the spot and the bond it forged with her brother, she knew little of Duxbury, and had no idea that a good cause in Duxbury would help give meaning to Wayne’s untimely death.
