After over a decade of anticipation for the construction of a new police station, Duxbury residents and law enforcement finally have an end in sight, with a move-in date projected for the first of March.

“Happy Birthday, Evan,” his mother, Nancy Cooney, said.

Today, Evan and Camryn Evans, best friends who more often than not call each other cousins, will celebrate an usual birthday: they will turn 12 on Dec. 12, 2012.

During a staff meeting last fall, Father Bob Deehan of Duxbury’s Holy Family Parish commented that the church’s Nativity set was becoming a little tired and worn. After a brief discussion of what could be done to improve the dated and rather small setting, he asked if anybody had a suggestion.  Without hesitation, an energetic staff member, who shall remain nameless, stood up and said “my husband can do that, no problem.”

Co-Chair of the Duxbury 375th Anniversary Committee, Anne Antonellis has been one busy woman this past year. As the celebrations came to a close last week, The Clipper chatted with Anne as she reflected on her time with the Committee and love for our town and its rich history and culture.

She's our hero of the year. Duxbury's youth have rallied around local hero Razia Jan over the last few months, learning about her efforts to provide education to young girls in Afghanistan, the dangers, challenges, and social implications changing the landscape for the future for women there. At DSU kids have been voting daily to help her win the $250,000 award to further her school.

The school committee has decided to pursue a proposal to push the date of the annual town meeting into April, more than a month later than its current date.

The recreation department is requesting Community Preservation Act funding to create more fields on land adjacent to the Chandler Elementary School. Recreation director Gordon Cushing explained his proposal to the Community Preservation Committee last week.

Friday With Heide. Virtual Trip to the Blackstone River Valley. Join Heide on Friday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. for the popular virtual tour of a different area of Massachusetts. This tour will be presented via slides and commentary. Learn about the place called the birth canal of the American Industrial Revolution and about America's hardest working river. This 'tour' is free and open to the public.

 The staff and advisor of Duxbury High School's literary magazine will hold a creative writing conference for middle school students from 3:00 to 4:30 on Tuesday, December 11.

In an about-face, the Board of Selectmen has named and appointed a town manager search committee, reversing the decision it made last month to rely on a hiring team made up of town officials, human resources staff, and volunteers.

A Burlington developer has agreed to buy the 40-unit Brewster Commons and wants to drop the affordable housing development’s 55 plus age requirement.

The school department is requesting $1.3 million more for its budget next year.
