DHS Principal John McCarthy said the note was found in the early afternoon on Tuesday in the girls’ locker room, the same location a note was found on April 13. The note, said McCarthy, was similar to four others found this year and both school and police officials confirm they are related. “I wouldn’t say that [this note] is more of a threat or raises an alert,” he said. “It has included threatening language.” McCarthy added that this note, like two found in January, one in March and another over two weeks ago, did contain the names of 12 specific freshmen as targets of the threat. Duxbury Police Chief Mark DeLuca added that unlike the previous four notes, this one was typed rather than handwritten. DeLuca said that the department is continuing its investigation but has run out of leads thus far. “We’ve exhausted our means in regards to evidence,” he said. “What we’ve been provided with is limited, but what we have has been exhausted.” DeLuca added that the department has no fingerprints to compare or a writing sample that matches that found in the previous four notes. He added that his department is continuing to use their resources as well as the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department and federal agencies such as the FBI and Secret Service. Police did search DHS for weapons Tuesday night and will continue random searches with metal detectors throughout the week, said DeLuca. They will also maintain a presence at the school as they have in the past month. As for new avenues to identify the author or authors of the notes, McCarthy said the school is in the process of implementing an anonymous tipline for students and members of the community to utilize, but that it would not be ready until sometime next week.
