Maryanne O’Hara, author of the critically acclaimed novel “Cascade,” will be at the Duxbury Free Library on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. for reading and a book signing. “Cascade” is also a Westwinds’ staff pick and a recommended book club selection. This event is part of the Night Lights series, a partnership between the Duxbury Free Library and Westwinds Bookshop to bring evening literary events to the community.
Desdemona Hart Spaulding was an up-and-coming Boston artist when she married in haste and settled in the small, once-fashionable theater town of Cascade to provide a home for her dying father. Now Cascade is on the short list to be flooded to provide water for Boston, and Dez’s discontent is complicated by her growing attraction to a fellow artist. When tragic events unfold, Dez is forced to make difficult choices. Must she keep her promises? Is it morally possible to set herself free? The book delves into tough questions about responsibility, freedom, and what is lasting in this world. This is an event not to be missed. All are welcome to attend. Free tickets for the event are available at the library or the bookshop. For more information, call the library at 781-934-2721 x 108, or Westwinds Bookshop at 781-934-2128. |
