Town Clerk Nancy Oates expected a record Election Day turnout and it looks like she was right! As of Sept. 27, the number of registered voters in Duxbury was 11,089, according to Assistant Town Clerk Linda Salvati. That total could be increased by as many as a couple of hundred, with late registrants, she said.
The Clipper went to press before the votes were tallied, but by noontime, 12:15 to be exact, the following totals were reported from Duxbury’s six precincts: Precinct One: 845 Precinct Two: 741 Precinct Three: 843 Precinct Four: 680 Precinct Five: 786 Precinct Six: Machine was out of order and votes will be counted later. Asst. Town Clerk Salvati said that precinct six is a large precinct and it could have as many as the tally from precinct one. Using these totals, more than 40 per cent of Duxbury’s voters had cast their ballots by noon. Representatives from all the candidates were out in force, waving their banners high. Even a calf from the O’Neill Farm was visiting to show his support for the Community Preservation Act funding.
