An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale, epicenter 30 miles outside of Portland, Maine, was felt throughout Duxbury and the six New England states.  The Duxbury Fire and Police Departments handled many phone calls as residents wanted to know just what was happening.  For some, the ‘quake sounded like a bang and felt like a bump.  One resident stepped outside thinking that something had just hit his house.  Another youngster thought his parents were banging on the ceiling to get his attention.  Some didn’t feel it at all.

Gov. Deval Patrick released a statement Tuesday night that there are no reports of injury or damage in Massachusetts, however MEMA (Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency) “will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
