Duxbury Police are investigating the report that two female joggers were assaulted while jogging in two separate incidents in two separate locations on Thursday morning (9/6/12). At 10:24 am a female jogger reported being approached from behind by an unknown male while jogging on Crescent Street. The man then assaulted the jogger and ran off into nearby woods. At 11:05 am a second female reported to police that she was assaulted in a similar fashion while jogging along Powder Point Avenue near Russell Road. In both cases the victims described the man as a young man (teens to twenties) wearing long cargo styled shorts and a dark colored tee shirt. The investigation has revealed that the incident on Powder Point Avenue actually occurred first, sometime in the area of 9:30 to 10:00 am with the Crescent Street incident immediately following.
Duxbury Police launched a search of both areas aided by the Duxbury Police canine “Zar”. The immediate search met with negative results. The Duxbury Police Criminal Investigations Bureau is investigating the incident. Police are currently investigating a previous incident of a similar nature that occurred on Saint George Street in August. We urge female joggers to exercise reasonable precautions by being acutely aware of your surroundings, jogging in pairs or groups when possible, always having a cell phone on your person when jogging and to maintain a safe distance if you encounter suspicious individuals. We ask that any unusual encounters with individuals while jogging be reported immediately to police. |
