| Bail set for home invasion suspect |

The Oklahoma man accused of attempting an armed home invasion at the home of an off-duty Duxbury police officer had his bail set at $500,000 cash bail last Wednesday in Brockton Superior Court.
Judge Joseph Walker III agreed to Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Tim Shyne’s request for a high bail, taking under advisement Roderick’s post-conviction warrant in Oklahoma for armed robbery and the 10 counts he faces in Massachusetts, including three counts of attempted murder for firing on Duxbury Police officers who responded to the May 20 911 call.
Roderick’s attorney Liam Scully said he did not ask for a reduction on the bail, but reserves the option once his own investigation into the charges is complete. Roderick was unable to make bail, but Scully said he may ask the judge to revisit the bail amount at Roderick’s pretrial hearing set for Sept. 13. “I did not make a bail argument pending the results of my investigation,” said Scully. “We need more time to prepare an effective bail argument.” Roderick was arrested May 21 when he allegedly wielded a handgun while trying to force his way into the Deerpath Trail home of an off-duty police officer. When Duxbury Police responded to a 911 call from the police officer’s wife, one of the officers spotted a suspect on Temple Street near the overpass and ordered the suspect to stop multiple times, but the suspect fled. Other officers, including a K9 unit, gave chase through the woods. According to police reports, Roderick allegedly shot at the pursuing officers. As many as 100 state, local and county officers then set up a perimeter of the area and Roderick eventually surrendered to a State Police officer who then handed him over to Duxbury Police. Roderick was charged with three counts of assault, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with intent to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and disorderly conduct. Each count carries a potential state prison sentence with the illegal possession of a firearm carrying a mandatory 18-month sentence. |
