Duxbury Beach open to swimming

A water sample taken Friday afternoon at Duxbury Residents Beach came back with safe levels of bacteria, clearing the way for swimming at the popular beach.

According to Harbormaster Don Beers, the beach in now fully open. “The Friday afternoon sample came in at less than 10,” said Beers, in an email on Sunday, referring to the levels of bacteria found. “The Resident Beach waters are approved for swimming.”

Last Tuesday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) measured the bacteria levels at 3900 CFU/100 ml. The water was re-tested on Thursday and measured 2489 CFU/100 ml., though 50 yards away it was normal.
