| UPDATE: Duxbury Beach remains closed to swimming |

Duxbury Harbormaster Don Beers is reporting that Duxbury Beach, specifically Residents Beach, will remain closed to swimming following continued high levels of bacteria in water samples. Only Duxbury Residents Beach is affected by high bacteria. Duxbury Beach at the Bath House, Landing Road, Shipyard Lane and West End all remain open with safe levels. Beers said he expects Duxbury Beach to remain closed to swimming through Tuesday when further water samples will be taken. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reports that samples taken yesterday at Residents Beach remain high at 2400 CFU/100ml.“Obviously something’s out there,” said Beers. “In that one small area where I sampled, we can’t remove the seaweed because of the nearby endangered species. If it wasn’t created by some kind of mammal, maybe the seaweed contains some kind of bacteria.” The results of water samples are posted regularly on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health beach Web site y: http://mass.digitalhealthdepartment.com/public_21/beaches.cfm?btown=Duxbury |
