The man accused of attempting an armed home invasion on Deerpath Trail last month will remain in jail pending a probable cause hearing July 10. Judge Kathryn Hand ordered Brett Roderick, 19, held without bail following his dangerousness hearing last week in Plymouth District Court. Roderick is accused of attempting an armed home invasion and then firing two shots at two Duxbury police officers responding to the 911 call. He’s been formally charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a firearm and disorderly conduct. No one was harmed in the May 21 incident. Hand said based on the credible evidence presented by Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Douglas Humphrey that in order to ensure the safety of the community, Roderick be held without bail. An Oklahoma resident, officials there issued a warrant for his arrest after Roderick violated parole following his conviction for a 2010 armed robbery conviction. His defense attorney Liam Scully said that it was better for the court to err on the side of caution. “Given how serious the charges are, it’s not surprising,” said Scully. As part of their ongoing investigation, Duxbury Police searched the woods near the Tremont Street overpass on Friday where Roderick is alleged to have fired on police. Assisting DPD in the search was the Metro Response Team, the Southeast Mass Law Enforcement Council and the Quincy Police Marine Unit, which contributed sonar equipment. “The search was very successful and recovered key pieces to the puzzle,” said Clancy. “Key evidence was recovered that we consider to be important parts to the investigation.” In addition, Clancy said two warrants were executed in Duxbury Friday afternoon in relation to the Roderick investigation. “They were served in Duxbury,” said Clancy. “The investigators in this case searched Duxbury residences for additional evidence. As a result of those warrants, one individual will be charged with possession of a Class B substance. In another, there was marijuana and a ticket was written. The investigation continues and expands.” |
