Alden House hosts Speak for Thyself Awards
By Sarah Coughlin

In a town with such a rich history, Duxbury residents are fortunate to be surrounded by people and institutions dedicated to honoring and teaching this heritage. The Alden Kindred of America, Inc. states as their purpose “…the preservation and the spirit of those early pilgrims from beyond the sea…” Matthew Vigneau, Museum Manager at the Alden House, devotes his day-to-day efforts to championing this preservation. With the upcoming 375th anniversary celebrations, Vigneau said his involvement in the 375th Committee has been a great experience and shown him how much residents give back to the community.

“I am very happy to be from Duxbury and the more and more I get involved with different organizations and causes, my affinity for the town continues to grow,” said Vigneau. “There are so many great organizations in town that I would employ everyone to get out and get involved.”

In the spirit of giving back and kicking off a summer of celebratory events, this Friday, May 18, the Alden House will host its sixth annual “Speak for Thyself” Awards Dinner at the Duxbury Senior Center.

“The ‘Speak for Thyself’ award is presented each year to honor exceptional local women who are tireless champions of a number of incredible causes,” said Vigneau.

Four women, The Rev. Catherine Cullen and Pamela Campbell Smith from Duxbury, Janet LaBerge of Pembroke, and Alba Thompson of Plymouth will be honored on Friday evening at the awards dinner, which will take place from 6 - 9 p.m.

For tickets and more information, please contact Matthew Vigneau at 781-934-9092 or email him at aldenhouse@comcast.net.
