The Duxbury Police Department (DPD) has been awarded recertification by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. In order to receive certification from the MPAC, a department must meet the over 250 mandatory criteria of professional law enforcement standards. “It’s a seal of approval,” said Chief Matthew Clancy. “It’s an auditing process where a group of trained assessors review our operation. The audit team comes to the police station and they turn you upside down.” Clancy said an example of some of the standards on which Duxbury Police were judged included its use-of-force policy, evidence-handling and processing. “This is a testament to the men and women of the Duxbury Police Department,” said Clancy. “Part of the process of becoming accredited, which is a voluntary process, is that we agree to build the policies and processes to meet the standards, and we are true to that.” The DPD was first accredited in 2006 and must seek recertification every three years. This is the third time it has passed. |
