Fire destroys four Humarock homes, Duxbury Fire assists
By Amy MacKinnon

(One of four homes destroyed by a fast moving fire in Humarock. Duxbury assisted Scituate crews, but were hampered by 60 mph wind gusts.)

A multi-alarm fire hit the Humarock section of Scituate today, destroying four homes along the opening of Humarock Beach. An electrical fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of one of the homes and with wind gusts nearing 60 miles per hour, the fire spread quickly to neighboring homes. Only one of the houses was occupied and two people were reported to have suffered minor injuries.

Fire stations from Duxbury, Marshfield, Cohasset and Hingham assisted the Scituate Fire Department as did Marshfield and State Police. Apparatus lined Central Ave. in Humarock, running numerous fire hoses throughout the area. When asked how many lines were in use, Hingham Fire Chief Mark Duff said, “A lot.”

Duxbury responded with one truck to cover Marshfield’s central fire station, which was en route to Scituate, and sent a forest fire truck to put out any spot fires at the scene.

“We sent a forest fire truck for fire brand control,” said Duxbury Fire Chief Kevin Nord. “There were sheets of vinyl coming off and blowing down near adjacent areas.”

Nord said eight firefighters from Duxbury assisted Scituate and Marshfield, while Kingston sent a truck to support Duxbury’s station.
