The town of Saugus is in the market for a new Town Manager and rumor has it they have their eye on Duxbury Town Manager Richard MacDonald. “I’m aware of the rumors,” said MacDonald who signed a three-year contract with the town last July. “I’m very happy in Duxbury and have not given consideration to another position.” MacDonald has worked in town for 16 years, seven as Town Manager, but is a lifelong resident of Saugus. According to Saugus Selectman Stephen Castinetti, no one has yet been formally approached for the position and the job was posted only this past Sunday, though it was listed on the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s (MMA) Web site last week. “We’re not going to steal Richard from Duxbury,” said Castinetti, noting he’s aware MacDonald is well regarded around town. “I understand he just signed a contract anyway.” The MMA has job postings from three communities seeking to fill Town Manager positions, not counting Cohasset where the Board of Selectmen recently voted to suspend their Town Manager Mike Coughlin after only six months on the job. According to published reports, the board will seek to remove him at a March 13 hearing. |
