Text of Threatening Note Released

On Friday, Duxbury police released excerpts from the latest threatening note found at Duxbury High School two days earlier. On Friday, Duxbury police released excerpts from the latest threatening note found at Duxbury High School two days earlier.

In a press release, police said they are requesting assistance from the community in identifying the handwriting or text used by the author of the note.

This move comes one day after officials announced a $2,000 reward to apprehend the person responsible for the latest note.

In a letter that went home with all Duxbury students Thursday afternoon, the school department’s Crisis Intervention Team discussed events at the school for that day and the next few days as a result of the latest discovery at the school.

On Wednesday morning, a threatening letter was found at the school targeting a specific list of students.  The students mentioned in the note and their parents were notified.

Thursday at the school, students waited in the cold before being coming through a lone entrance and were greeted by police and metal detectors.  Students were also not allowed to carry bags with them all day as they were instead kept in a secure location throughout the day.

According to the latest letter sent home, students will not be allowed to carry backpacks or sport bags for the remainder of the week.  On Monday, the school will allow sport bags, but they will be kept in a secure location, and backpacks are banned until further notice.

The reason for not allowing bags and the metal detectors, said the letter, was because the note referenced the use of a weapon.  Police have asked school officials to encourage any parents who have firearms in their home to ensure it is properly secured against unwanted access.

The letter also says that an investigation is ongoing to the identity of the author or authors and that a $2,000 reward is being offered “for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of individuals involved in the latest rash of threatening notes.”

“This reward is meant to encourage individuals to provide information only,” said the letter sent home with students.

Duxbury police are asking anyone with information to e-mail Officer Friend Weiler at f_weiler@duxbury.k12.ma.us or call the police department at 781-934-5656.
