The contest to fill a one-year unexpired term on the Planning Board is now a one-person race.

Last Wednesday, Vine Street resident Steven Snyder withdrew from the March 27 elections, citing a time conflict with his role as chief information officer for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

“We are opening the new convention center and it is taking up a lot of my time and could through September or November, so it would not be prudent to run for office if I can’t give it the time it requires,” he said.

While he will not be on the ballot in March, Snyder did not rule out a run for elected office in Duxbury in the future.

“I’ll have time once we are over this hump [with the new building] and perhaps I’ll run again,” he said.

Snyder’s withdrawal leaves King Caesar Lane resident John Bear as the lone candidate on the ballot to fill the unexpired term created by the December resignation of then-planning board member David Matthews.

Snyder’s exit came one day after Fiscal Advisory Committee Chairman William O’Toole announced he was dropping out of the school committee race.  O’Toole said that while this was not an ideal time to run for him, he also has not ruled out candidacy for town office in the future.

With February 25 the last day to withdraw, the ballot is officially off to the printer, said Town Clerk Nancy Oates.

When it is presented to voters in March, the following candidates will be listed:

Selectmen ñ one seat for three years: George Shamma and incumbent John Tuffy; School Committee ñ two seats for three years: George Cipolletti, Ernest Nichols and Karen Wong; Assessors ñ one seat for three years: James MacNab and Richard Lane Partridge; Moderator ñ one seat for one year: incumbent Allen Bornheimer; Town Clerk ñ one seat for three years: Mary Moe McCarron and incumbent Nancy Oates;  Planning Board ñ two seats for five years: James Kimball, Jr., Robert Molla and incumbent George Wadsworth;

Library Trustees ñ two seats for three years: incumbent Nancy Delano, Arthur Evans, incumbent Theodore Flynn and Nancy Rose Noble; Housing Authority- one seat for unexpired term of two years: John Griffin and Elizabeth LaForest.
