Duxbury man named Governor Patrick’s new chief of staff
By Administrator
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 01:58 PM

A Duxbury resident has been named chief of staff in Governor Deval Patrick’s office. Arthur Bernard of Keene Street, who had previously been a senior advisor to the governor, will replace Doug Rubin, who will now head Patrick’s re-election effort, according to a statement released by the governor’s office.

“Arthur has become one of my closest and most trusted advisors since joining the team last year,” Patrick said in a statement. “His experience, judgement and level-headedness have been enormous assets to me already and make him perfectly suited to help lead our ambitious agenda.”

Bernard, a graduate of Boston College Law School and Suffolk University, joined the administration in June of 2008. As a senior advisor, he worked closely with the Governor’s cabinet on policy and management. Before joining the governor’s staff, Bernard was vice chancellor for government relations and public affairs for the University of Massachusetts. He was also the chief of staff for former Senate President Robert Travaglini for four years, and worked for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority from 1993 to 1996. He has received the Pride in Performance Award (Executive Office of Transportation and Construction), the YMCA Black Achiever Award and the Suffolk University Alumni Career Achievement Award.
