A Pembroke man, on May 20, pled guilty to raping a Duxbury girl and was sentenced to five years of probation in Brockton Superior Court. Charles L. McAdam Jr., 40, of Lake Street, pled guilty to rape of a child with force and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years or older in superior court after having been indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury on July 21. The charges stem from a December 2007 complaint filed by the girl stating that McAdam had assaulted her while both were living in Duxbury in 2002, 2004 and 2005. The victim told police she was reporting the incidents because she was afraid another girl might be in danger from McAdam, according to the police report. In an interview with Duxbury and Pembroke detectives, McAdam admitted smoking pot with the girl when she was 16 but denied the assaults. He further claimed he had a condition in which he walked and talked in his sleep and said the condition was worse when he was binge drinking and smoking pot. The district attorney had recommended McAdam be sentenced to four to six years in state prison for the charges, with five years of probation to follow. However, Assistant District Attorney Lewis Armistead said the victim had sought a lighter sentence for McAdam, which the judge agreed to. “It appears the victim was looking for a more lenient sentence. We thought state prison was appropriate,†Armistead said. McAdam also will have to register as a sex offender. He will appear before the state Sexual Offender Registry Board, which will determine his level (1, 2 or 3). |
