Meine family much to be thankful for

There could not be a time more appropriate than Christmas for us to express gratitude to our community for the gifts we've received this year. There could not be a time more appropriate than Christmas for us to express gratitude to our community for the gifts we've received this year.

Spencer will return to school full time in January having consistently exceeded projections for each phase of his recovery. He'll need an additional procedure for ligament repair but walks free of assistance as he did before. This is truly a testimonial to modern medicine, his hard work and that of his medical practitioners. In short, a miracle.

We've had the opportunity to be moved by the compassion of his older brother and sister, who have been there to sleep at the hospital, cheer him on, lift him up and lend an ear.

We've experienced a spirit of kindness and compassion in countless ways over the past few months, from the students and staff at the high school who have been there daily for all of us, to the Sunday school teachers and children at the Pilgrim Church who made cards to cheer us. We are lucky to have police officer Friend Weiler, D.A.R.E. officer for our schools who was there for us that day, but is a model of grace and character for our kids every day. Police Chief DeLuca offered the support of the police department and offered his services personally to us when our lives were in chaos.

In October, as we were trying to figure out how to get Spencer home for his first visit, Mike Eddy of Habitation Assistance Corporation in Plymouth stepped forward to donate the use of a wheelchair van. When he arrived in the rain with a Red Sox hat and a smile, he told us he was a former DHS student and just wanted to help in some way.

Our neighbors cooked for us, then Ann Marie Oliver worked with the parents of Scout Troop 62 and continued this right into December. We received prayers and well wishes from all over the world, from all different faiths, from friends and strangers alike. By chance, last week Spender met EMT Alex Merry who treated him at the scene, and had the opportunity to thank him in person. To all of you who never asked, but just came forward and helped us in ways we couldn't have considered, like our neighbor Kathy Nollner, thank you so much.
