Helen Mary Galvin, age 97, died on April 27 at the King James Care Center in Chatham, N.J. Mrs. Galvin was born in Milton on April 20, 1915. She was a foster mother to many children while in Hyde Park and a “lunch lady” in the Duxbury school system for many years after she moved to Duxbury in 1968. Starting in 1996, she lived with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons in New Jersey before moving to King James Care Center. She enjoyed growing flowers, eating sweets, watching birds, and singing and dancing to Irish music with her grandchildren. Mrs. Galvin was the wife of the late William T. Galvin and the last of eight brothers and sisters from the Rabbitt family. She leaves her children, Pegeen M. Galvin-Scott of Florham Park, N.J., Brian E. Galvin of Wrentham, Robert K. Galvin of Mount Sinai, New York, and the late Michael J. Galvin and William T. Galvin, Jr.; and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Church followed by a burial at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury. |
